Troubleshooting:After a clean install of windows 7 home premium 64 bit, dvd's will not play [scrambled] and computer will sometimes freeze and I must force restart. Error

After a clean install of windows 7 home premium 64 bit, dvd's will not play [scrambled] and computer will sometimes freeze and I must force restart.

I have windows 7 home premium 64 bit that crashed totally.  I mistakenly installed my vista 32 bit os on it.  I purchased a new windows 7 home premium os and installed it.  I did a clean install after formatting the hard drive [did it twice].  Now dvd's
will not play [scrambled] and computer will sometimes freeze and I must force restart.  I have seen reference to 32 system on restarting options.  HELP??
