Fast Solution to Problem: 64 bit SSD slow compared to my 32 bit & Internet no longer working

64 bit SSD slow compared to my 32 bit & Internet no longer working

Hello!

Hope you are all okay!

This was my first PC build, everything was running fine on my 32 bit SSD, it was ultra fast to boot and open all programs/games.

When ProTools started having trouble handling a lot of tracks and amp sims, i did a bit of research and lolled when i found out 32bit was only using 3gb of my 8gb RAM (like i said, first build and i had been advised on 32bit).
So on payday i purchased:

64bit win 7
2tb seagate for backing up some SSD files & my other 500gb hard drive
the Benq xl240t monitor (dont know how important that would be - probably not at all but figured it would be best to put it down just incase).

I jumped into BIOS2 and told it to boot from CD, on the custom install i formatted both partitions on the SSD (after moving data i wanted to keep to the 2tb) and installed the 64bit on to it.
- should i have removed the partition before installing 64bit?

I then used the total install option on the MSI cd, installed the Nvidia cd and put the benq cd in which...seemed not to really have anything on it other than the manual and a still screen with lots of colours on, to test something or other.

PROBLEM:
From the boot, it is a lot slower than the 32 bit.
It would normally go to the password screen as soon as the orbs connected.
With this one, the orbs connect, form the window and pulse for a while before moving on to the password screen.

I have also noticed Firefox takes a while to load up, where it used to be instant - it can now take the same kind of time it took on my old XP computer.
(Not entirely sure whether i found the FF download from the webpage or opened up a copy from one of the
old hard drives and installed it to the SSD).

PROBLEM 2:
Initially the internet worked fine after i had installed the MSI cd.
However, it soon stopped working.
I connect via ethernet and a DLAN - when i plug this into my xbox, it works fine.

I remember something similar when i installed the 32bit version but i cant remember how to fix it.

After trying a repair, it said something about DNS.
I googled and found some things about unchecking the v6 and changing the v4 DNS, IP box to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 annnnd 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

I have also flushed the DNS - which it says it has done but it wont display the DNS.

Neither IE or FF will connect to the internet, but when it did work, i had downloaded Avast & Zone Alarm.
I have also noticed windows downloading updates for itself.

The machine itself:

MSI Z68A-GD55-G3
I7 Sandybridge
8gb mushkin
GTX 570
Mushkin Chronus 120GB
Old 500 gb hard drive - picked up from my old PC that ran XP
2TB seagate
Sethmugen fan
750w ocz zs
Benq xl240t monitor

annnnd i think thats it.
Any help would be muchos appreciated.

I have searched google but nothing really seems to be working.

Cheers
Simon

Could you provide an example of how slow the system? Like how many seconds does it take to reach from the BIOS to the Windows desktop?
How long does it take load an application?
Do you happen to have any non-essential devices attached to the system during boot up?
If so, disconnect them.
Also check to make sure all of your RAM is fitted and seated properly.
------------------
If the problem persist, then I would try testing the memory, try switching around modules and see if it boots normally.
You might want to try reducing the amount of installed RAM to a single stick and see what happens.
You can also test the memory modules for errors:
First try running Memtest86+, this runs from a boot disk or CD and should eliminate or
confirm if your one or more of your memory sticks are bad or the SPD values in the BIOS are correct.
Let it run for as long as you can: 2,4,6,8 or more hours, if no errors by then your ram is OK.

-----------------------
As for your Internet problem.

What type of Internet connection are you on, wireless or wired? If you are on a wireless connection, try switching to a wired connection and attempt the download.
Click Start, type: cmd
Right click cmd then click Run as administrator
At the command prompt, type the following:
ipconfig/release
then
ipconfig/renew
then
ipconfig/flushdns
exit the command prompt
Click Start, type: %temp%
Hit Enter
Delete contents of the temp folder
Restart your system and try downloading again.
If the problem persist, try resetting your router if you are connected one.
Power down the router, disconnect it, wait 10 mins
Reconnect it, power up again
Reconnect the Ethernet cable

--------------------
If you are connecting to the Internet using Ethernet, try uninstalling the Ethernet adapter.
Click Start, type: device manager
Hit Enter on your computer
Expand Network Adapters
Right click the Adapter
Click Uninstall
Exit Device Manager
Restart your computer
Let it redetect the adapter or reinstall it using the appropriate driver.

If I understand correctly, you formatted the drive (2 TB) where you backed up the data? If you did, then you should have removed the drive.
