Need help to sign in - won't go past Welcome screen

I went to log into my computer last night and put in my password.
It went to load my personal settings, I saw a flash of my desktop, and then....it started to shut down, saving my network setting and went back to the login screen.
It does this everytime
I try to log in.
I have a newer computer, just over a year old with Windows XP Pro.
I have tried starting in safe mode but it does not give me this option when restarting in F8.
Please help!
