Dell Data Safe Problems

I have a Dell Inspiron Duo.  It came with Windows 7.  I recently bought Windows 8.  Before I installed Windows 8, I did a complete backup to an external hard drive using Dell DataSafe.  Now that I have installed Windows 8, i have lost all of my personnel
files and no they are not in Windows,old.  Does anyone know how to restore my computer back to Windows 7.  The problem is Dell Data Safe is not usable on Windows 8.
