Data Execution Prevention won

I am running Vista Home with SP1 on an ACER Aspire 5610Z Notebook.
I have downloaded and installed Live Messenger from the Live Website.
Nearly every time I try to run it, I get a Message saying that DEP has closed Live Messenger.
I attempted to turn DEP off for Live Messenger, but got the Message that this is not possible.
What next?

This issue seems to be related to the Acer eDataSecurity.  There is a related article, along with a patch to fix it, on Acer's web site here:

Use the System File Checker tool to repair corrupted or missing system files:

1. Click Start.
2. Type cmd, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to open the elevated command prompt (I.e. Command prompt with administrative rights).
3. The User Account Control window should appear, be sure that the action it exhibits is correct, and then press the Continue button.
4. Type or copy paste the below command line into it without quotes:
5. "Sfc /scannow"
