Solution to Error: DNS Server not responding & IP Address set to 111.111.111.111

DNS Server not responding & IP Address set to 111.111.111.111

I have win 7 (both 32 bit and 64 bit) on my small business network.
I also have Win XP & free wi-fi for customers.
I have a Netgear Firewall and Cable modem.

Mostly, I'm good with this stuff but I'm stumped with the DCHP.
It was working fine and then all of the sudden, all DHCP was set to 111.111.111.11*  (where star could be incremental assignments).
The diagnostic of win 7 on the network yeilds a DNS Server not
responding.

If I configure manually the IP/DNS pairs, I can connect just fine and this solution works (I think?) for the LAN.
The wireless is more hit and miss.

I'm not sure if a Virus has mis-configured my network because it is happening from all computers (laptops, desktops and customer computers)......

I even did a firmware upgrade (same version used to replace any corrupt) on my firewall (the DCHP server).
I have DCHP disabled on all wireless and cable modems.

Mouneshwar, I'd like to give you a suggestion.
Don't just read a question, try READING it for once.
You're giving him the most basic responses, for someone who doesn't know anything about computers, when his post indicates he has computer skills and
he already tried method 1 and knows how to do method 2.
Maybe if you actually cared about the problem, which it seems you don't, and gave it more than a passing glance, it might be resolved faster, without needing your unnecessary reply.

Now then.
A virus is unlikely but always possible, It might just be a simple glitch in the DHCP server that set the IP range to give to computers, to 111.111.111.111 through 120 or whatever the case may be.
Have you tried changing the scope of the DHCP?
Or maybe resetting the DNS server?

Machine Throttling
  • Click the Start button.
  • In the Search box, type "regedit" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Look for the following registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions".
  • On the right window pane, delete the subkey: "Machine Throttling".
  • Reboot your computer.
